A Tradition Unlike Any Other – Week 1 Recap

On the same day the 77th Masters Tournament kicked off, so did another tradition unlike any other: the Coot Brown Golf League!

It’s been a long winter & it’s finally time for the 27th season of the longest-running amateur league in St. Louis.  And man were Coot’s guys ready…too bad the weather wasn’t.

After a week that featured some beautiful spring-time weather to start and then some strong spring-time storms in the middle, Coot’s guys were greeted with chilly temps, windy conditions, and overcast skies.  The scores reflected the lackluster weather and a little rust as they soared higher than the bald eagle spotted on the driving range.

Of the 48 golfers on Week 1, 19 shot 50 or higher and there was just 1 sub-40 score.  All that said, no one can wait for Week 2!

THE GOOD – Norm’s 59 – “win”
THE BAD – Bruce’s 39 – “loss”
THE UGLY – Southside Machine and G & G Snow Plow: both shut out!

While it might not have been his usual prowess, Bruce Thomas shot a 39 & had the low score of the night.  Dave Hart (43) & Chris Caruso (40) shared the honor of having the low-net-score of the night of 33.  Closest-to-the-pin honors were nabbed by Herb Golterman & George Ermold.

Metro Electric (Team 6), the winningest team in Coot’s history, is tied for first place spot in the standings after Week 1 with Heyl Farms (Team 7)…we’ll see if either team can go wire-to-wire!

COOT SAYS: “The Wamser sure looks good from the green tees!”

Happy belated birthday to Bruce Thomas & Mike Wamser (sweet 65)!  Don’t forget to check your handicap for Week 2!  Also – good luck to all the Cooters participating in the first round of the 2013 Match Play Challenge.  A couple of the brackets have been updated – be sure to check out the latest versions!
