Plowing Through An Ace – Week 19 Recap

These 3 Cooters provide the league with 210 years of experience!

The Woodlands Course at Tapawingo National provided lots of drama for the Week 19 Position Round.

First, for the key results of the night and the crowning of the second half champions.  G & G SNOW PLOW plowed right over K.G. ELECTRIC, INC. to deny Team 8 the chance to win both halves and the 2017 crown.

CONGRATULATIONS G & G SNOW PLOW!

That sets up a lot of last-night-drama for Week 20’s championship match between Team 9 & Team 8!  And, in case you’re wondering, K.G. ELECTRIC, INC. holds the tiebreaker.  Each team has a 10-point sweep over the other team in 2017; therefore, the second tiebreaker had to be used: total points.  K.G. ELECTRIC, INC. (115.5) edges out G & G SNOW PLOW (105.5) by just 10 points.

The unofficial lineup cards for the title bout:

  • G & G SNOW PLOW: JIM PLEIMANN, JIM MARKUS, GREG GILLICK, & ERIC POHRER
  • K.G. ELECTRIC, INC.: BRUCE THOMAS, JOHN GREFFET, GREG GAWRYS, & KEVIN GARDNER

The individual results were basically just as dramatic.  First, a couple of guys had some good low-scratch-scores: DAVE SCHWEITZER (34), KEVIN TYLER (35), and JOE SONDERMAN (35).  In fact, Dave’s 2-under-par-34 helped him finish the 2017 campaign in the top spot in the League Rankings.

On the low-net-score front, GREG GILLICK (27/40) led the way.  No one made any progress on the Milestone Watch so we will start 2018 as-is.  As for the final closest-to-the-pin honors of the season, MATT GAGNEPAIN & DAVE SCHWEITZER grabbed those.

But, Matt didn’t just “grab” the closest-to honor.  Instead, he became the 7th guy in Coot’s history to ace a hole-in-one during league play (and the first at our new home, Tapawingo National)!  Using a 7-iron on hole #3, and with a little help from a previous closest-to-the-hole marker placement, Matt aced the hole, grabbing this year’s $820 jackpot, closest-to money, and a skin.  All those winnings combined sure helped to pay off the over-$500 tab on #19!

CONGRATULATIONS MATT!

What. A. Night. – here’s the Good, the Bad, & the Ugly:

  • THE GOOD: An ace worth $820
  • THE BAD: An ace beating out JEFF LAURY’S 6″ shot
  • THE UGLY: An ace worth a big bar tab!

Also, the end of 2017 means that the final results are in for the annual awards:

FYI: ALL PLAY THIS WEDNESDAY – stroke play, $10 buy-in for prize money (4 flights) – FINAL NIGHT IS ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23!
