And here we are, at the quarter-post again.  Coot’s 26th season is going by as fast as the first 25 did.  The only difference with this one is…the PERFECT weather!  The is the first time in Coot’s history that weather has not negatively impacted any of the first five weeks of the season.

And the scores were just about as good…

George Ermold led the way in scoring with the overall low score of the night (36) and the overall low-net-score of the night (29).

Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Craig Morris and Joe Turek Jr., making Joe the first guy this year to earn the honors two times.

The standings stayed mostly the same as all the teams seemed to split points with each other.  That means that Metro Electric remains the top team in the league…again.  That also means that K.G. Electric, Inc. is in the cellar…again.

THE GOOD - Week 5 overall stroke average was 45.18…enough said.

THE BAD - Week 4 overall stroke average was 45.95 (guess the ‘longer’ course for Week 5 didn’t hurt as bad as everyone thought it would)

THE UGLY - Somebody messed with the silver tees, putting them way in the back.

On the milestone watch, Herb Golterman earned career-victory #97…just 3 to go!  Meanwhile, Norm Friedmeyer joined a lesser-sought-after club: the 150 loss club.

No key feature match-up of the week for Week 6 – here’s to hoping someone can knock Metro Electric off their game at least once!

Continue reading »]]> Week 4 was a breezy, 90-degree night.  This round of golf took place on the front 9 & it was a piece ‘o cake!  Russ Klevorn led the lights-out golfing with his 2-under-par-34.

Russ was joined by 3 other guys for the low-net-score of the night, each with a 28.  Those guys were: Chris Caruso, Dave Hegger, & Tim Sargent.

The standings stayed pretty much the same with Metro Electric holding on to their top spot for yet another week.  The biggest jump of the week, though, was by Paul the Painter (Team #12).  Those guys earned all 10 points to move from 10th place to 6th place.

THE GOOD - Birdies were flying! A dozen birdies were recorded on the night.

THE BAD - Jim Jost III had a 5-putt performance on #2.

THE UGLY - GQ’s John Davis had a 10 on #7…then headed straight for the door…

 Ed Williams and Chris Tockstein nabbed closest-to-the-pin honors & Tim Sargent earned career-victory #97.

The feature match-up of the week will be a battle of first vs. second: Metro Electric (#1) vs. Southside Machine (#2) – ‘NUFF SAID.

Continue reading »]]> What a night!  Another perfect night of weather greeted Coot’s guys as they embarked upon the third week of the 2012 season.  It was back to the front-9 and the fellas brought the ole course to her knees with lights-out scoring.

That stellar scoring was led by Brad Garlich‘s 1-under-par-35 and Joe Sonderman‘s even-par-36.  Greg Gillick had the low-net-score with his net-30.

All of these great scores led to some action in the standings, but not at the top.  Metro Electric finished 2011 in first place and, through 3 weeks, that’s where they stay.  But, two teams took all 10 points – AALCO MFG. & Haegele Nursery – and made a great leap in the standings to be in serious contention as we near the quarter-post.

Metro Electric has a 2.5-point lead on Southside Machine in their early bid to go wire-to-wire for the first-half championship.  Two teams earning all 10 points means that two teams posted goose eggs on the night: Quail Creek & Paul the Painter.

THE GOOD – Nick Kausch nabbed an eagle (3) on #7; he then went on to shoot an overall score of 38. 

THE BAD – As in good…only 7 scores of 50 or more, compared to 25 scores of that type during Week 2.

THE UGLY – Team #7 – “B.T. Come Home!”

But…the big story of the night would have to be all the action on the Milestone Watch.  Ron Schmitt and Larry Moellering led the celebration on The Watch by earning their milestone career wins: #150 & #100, respectively.

CONGRATULATIONS RON & LARRY!

Dennis Bowers got #98 & Herb Golterman #96.  Larry’s win, though, had a certain poetic justice about it.  You see, he earned #100 in the process of beating Kevin Gardner to avenge the early season loss of a couple weeks ago.  That milestone victory for Larry turned out to be a milestone loss for KG as he joins the club of #150 career losses.

The feature match-up of Week 4 will be a battle between the second-place team (Southside Machine, 20 points) and the third-place team (Heyl Farms, 18.5 points).  Could be a big night for either team!

A special shout out to Chef Craig in his efforts to keep Coot’s guys fat & happy!  Coot would also like to welcome KFNS personality, Jay Randolph, Jr. to the Week 4 festivities.  Jay Jr. will be on site as he prepares for the launch of his “Puffers & Duffers” golf league & live broadcast of the “One to Three Show” on May 10th.

Continue reading »]]> Week 2 brought more great weather: DITTO on the weather.  But, Week 2 also brought the infamous back-9: NOT DITTO on the scores!

While the actual weather was perfect, it was a perfect storm of sorts that led to a slow night on the links.  With several high school matches on the course, Quail was low on golf carts.  This caused a delay in the start for many guys.  So not only were Coot’s guys dealing with a delay in starting, playing behind slow high school golfers, and the dang back-9, but, many were finishing in the increasing darkness.

This meant that 25 of the 48 scores turned in on the night were 50 or above.  Only Nick Kausch weathered this perfect storm with a 2-over-par-38.  Meanwhile, Marty Yanics & Tom Heyl had low-net-scores on the night of 32.

But, that didn’t stop C.E.S. – those guys hammered out a 10-point sweep on the night to jump to 4th place, just 3.5 points off-pace of reigning-champs, Metro Electric, in the standings.  Much like the Cardinals, they continued their hot play in defense of their 2011 title; Metro earned 8 points on the night.

THE GOOD – As in “all is good” after Week 2!

THE BAD – K.G. Electric, Inc. & G & G Snow Plow in the cellar.

THE UGLY – J.P.’s 9 on #16…’nuff said.

The Milestone watch had a good deal of activity as Larry Moellering (#99), Bob DeGunia (#98), and Tim Sargent (#96) all got their way one win closer to their career goal.  Also, Joe Turek Jr. and Steve Miniex were the closest-to-the-pin winners on the night.

Fresh off their record-5th league title, the guys of Metro Electric are hoping to be the first team to repeat as champs since AALCO MFG. did it in 1999 & 2000.

And…we’re off!  Season #26 is officially underway as Coot’s guys got things started on April 12th.  It was one of the best opening night’s in memory with blue skies and 70-degree temperatures.  Every golfer on hand was jacked up for the start of another great season; it was great to see everyone after a long winter’s slumber.

A few guys were quick to dust off the rust of the off-season.  Jim Pleimann (30) and John Davis (31) each scored the low nets on the night.  John also joined Dave Cooper in earning the first closest-to-the-pin honors of the new season.

The milestone watch is still in full effect on the new season.  The listing on the right-hand side of the home page shows all the guys who are within 5 wins of a career milestone.  The only guys who made their way a little closer during week 1 were: Dennis Bowers (#97) & Bob DeGunia (#97).  Keep your eye on that listing all season long as we celebrate career accomplishments.

The 2012 season will feature the return of the much-loved, “The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly”.

THE GOOD – Coot’s personal chef.

THE UGLY – Bruce Thomas was 1-under and lost by 2 to Tommy Short Pants.

Please join the Coot family in mourning the loss of Margaret Brawley. Margie went to be with the Lord on March 5th, her 75th birthday.

She was married to longtime league member, Bob Brawley, for 55 years. She is survived by her husband, their children & spouses, their grandchildren, and their growing list of great grandchildren.

Services are as follows:
Visitation is Thursday, March 8 from 4-8pm at Kutis on Lemay Ferry. Funeral mass is Friday, March 9 at 10:30am at Queen of All Saints in Oakville.

Please keep Bob and the entire family in your thoughts and prayers.
