The 2012 Match Play Challenge will tee off on Saturday, April 28th!

Registration is now available.  There is a one-time fee of just $20 to participate in the Match Play Challenge this year.  Brackets will be set up based on who signs up.

Registration money is due to Kevin Gardner by April 1st (when league fees are due).

The format and rules will be the same as last year.

2012 | 26 Years

1. 2012 League Fees – All money this year will be handled by your team captain.  Your captain must pay for your entire team by April 1, 2012.  All teams paid on time will receive 10 bonus points towards the start of the first half.  Failure to pay in full will result in your team losing 10 points.  This can result in a 20-point swing before your team is on the first tee box!  Last year every team paid on time – WOW!
2. Scorecards – In 2012, all cards must be filled out correctly.  Failure to do so will result in your team forfeiting and will receive 0 points.  All cards must have your full name, team number, and correct handicap.
3. Official Score – This year, to eliminate any possible discrepancies about socre results, we are proposing that each and every scorecard is to be verified by your opposing team and signed by one member of each team.  Any card not signed by one member of each team will receive 0 points for that night.
4. Team Realignments –In 2012, there is a need to solidify teams.  Weed out the weak and make some roster changes as needed.
5. Tee Times – The biggest problem in 2011 was the amount of no-shows and individuals requesting either a late and/or early tee time.  This can no longer be a concern for the league officials, but for each of you to work out with your team captain.
6. Rules Awareness – Another point many of you have aired is rules awareness.  It is the sole responsibility of each league member to know the rules and have read them.  If you question anything, ask your opposing team for a ruling.
7. “Native Wild Flowers” – All areas marked as such are considered out of bounds, play ball as if marked with white stakes.
8. Seniors – All league members 65 & older may play from Senior Tees (green).  Or any other special exemption previously approved by league officials.
9. Subs & Team Extras – This year all subs will have to be a paid member of the Coot Brown Golf League.  In addition, any team with more than a 6-man rotation will also need to pay an additional fee per golfer.
10. Rosters – All teams must submit a 6-man roster with any additional golfers listed by April 1, 2012.

Join us this Thursday at 7pm at the Quail Creek clubhouse for this very important meeting. Coot’s 26th season will be full of fun, excitement, and changes. Not the least of those changes is the new Quail Creek ownership.

So you won’t want to miss a minute of this always-informative meeting. Please make sure there are as many Cooters there as possible.

Metro Electric gathers around Coot's trophy while celebrating their league-record 5th victory.

What a night for a new league record!  A perfect 85º, sunny, and a nice breeze: it was the best final night ever!

Ed Williams and Nick Kausch earned closest-to-the-pin honors.

But, of course, the real story was the match-up between Metro Electric and The “Z” Band for the 25th League Championship.

Metro Electric was just too much for the red hot The “Z” Band to handle.  Metro took 6 of 10 points on the night to capture their 5th league title.

After finishing in first place for the first half, they tumbled to last place in the second half.  But, now, Metro is the team that holds the record for most league wins by a team at five (5) wins.  They have won the title in ’90, ’94, ’02, ’04, and now ’11.

This makes the league record for wins by a player now six (6):

• Chris Caruso (’90, ’94, ’98, ’02, ’04, ’11)
• Chris Tockstein (’91, ’94, ’98, ’02, ’04, ’11)
• Matt Gagnepain (’90, ’94, ’98, ’02, ’04, ’11)

The Shoot-Out Winners on the night:

• A Flight: John Greffet – Jeff Pohrer
• B Flight: Tom Heyl – Kevin Oliver
• C Flight: Gary Seymour – Tim Sargent

And so another year comes to an end; and it was a great one – everything 25 years had to offer!  A few guys joined and earned their way off the Milestone Watch, several earned closest-to-the-pin honors or won a skin, and a couple guys earned some season-end awards.  All-in-all, a great season.

Continue reading »]]> WHO WILL WIN THE 25TH STRAP?

It’s time for the annual Coot Brown Golf League championship tilt!  In one corner, we have First Half Champs, METRO ELECTRIC.  In the other corner, we have Second Half Champs, THE “Z” BAND.

After 19 weeks of golf, we’re down to just these 2 teams for the ultimate in Coot Brown glory.  We have to have a winner as a result of the play during Week 20.  Therefore, here’s how each team stacks up to the traditional Championship Week tiebreakers:

1. Tiebreaker #1: HEAD-TO-HEAD COMPETITION.  The first time these 2 teams met, Metro Electric took 9 of 10 points.  The second time they met, The “Z” Band took 9 of 10 points.  Therefore, we are still tied after the first tiebreaker.
2. Tiebreaker #2: MOST OVERALL POINTS.  Metro Electric earned 101 points on the 25th season.  The “Z” Band only earned 95.5.  Edge: METRO ELECTRIC.

So, in the case of a tie, Metro Electric holds the edge and will be crowned champions for the 5th time in league history.

Award is given annually to the player with the best record from that season.

It was a warm and humid night with no breeze in the air.  The temperature of Coot’s guys, though, was bitter-sweet.  Any night of Coot golf is great…except for when it’s the second-to-last night of the season.

But that didn’t stop some of Coot’s guys from shooting some of their best golf of the season.  Bruce Thomas shot his typical, 1-under-par-35 for the low-scratch-score of the night.  Dave Schuster and Gary Gardner had the low-net-score of the night with a 31 each.

Ed Williams and Dave Hart nabbed closest-to-the-pin honors.  Meanwhile, 4 different guys won a skin.  The pot was an amped-up $400 with the traditional $10 buy in on the last night of golf for the season.  Mike O’Kane, Nick Kausch, and Chris Turek each got one skin while Bruce Thomas nailed 2 of them.

The Milestone Watch will remain largely the same going into #26 as only Larry Moellering got a win to make progress toward his milestone-100.

In what is sort of an historical mark for the league, there were 5 matches that ended in ties, believed to be the most ever.

The feature match-up of Week 20, obviously, will be first-half winners, Metro Electric, and second-half winners, The “Z” Band, battling it out for the 25th championship title of Coot’s history!

Chris Pohrer enjoying the festivities at the annual Lake Ozark Golf Classic.

The heat spell finally snapped and Coot’s guys were greeted with a comfortable breeze, sunny skies, low humidity, and 82º.  That all made for a PERFECT setting for Week 18 that led into the annual Lake Ozark Golf Classic.

In addition to the excitement generated by the Lake Tourney, was the excitement generated by the tight standings for the last week of regular golf.  Going into Week 18, just six points separated the top spot and the 10th spot – some of the closest standings this late in any season of Coot’s history.

And The “Z” Band (Team 6) was up for the challenge.  They took 9 of 10 points to keep a strong hold of the top spot in the standings.  AALCO MFG. (Team 11) did their fair-share of damage too, earning 8 or 10 points to stay in 2nd place going into Week 19′s Position Round.  Mead Electric (Team 4) made the biggest jump on the night from 7th place to 4th place.

Here are the match-ups for Position Round on August 18:

6-11 :: 4-5 :: 8-2 :: 1-9 :: 10-7 :: 12-3

The action in the standings was led by the great golfing of several of Coot’s guys; 11 scores were turned in of 40 or below.  Bruce Thomas shot a 34 on the night for the “low-scratch-score”.  Meanwhile, Ron Suda‘s 27 was good for the “low-net-score” of the night.

Jim Jost III, Gary Williams, and Greg Gawrys each earned a skin and David Schuster and Bob Twitchell nabbed closest-to-the-pin honors.

Matt Gagnepain still has the best record in the league with his 10-2-0 (.833) record (1 more win and Jim Jost III will join him).   Jim Pleimann, though, joined Matt on this week’s “Most Improved” list after improving his handicap by 3 strokes.

On the Milestone Watch, Ron Schmitt and Larry Moellering each got 1 win closer to their respective milestones!

And so it is, 25 years of Coot is down to the final moments.  Good luck to all of Coot’s golfers in the Position Round during Week 19!

Coot's annual Lake Ozark Golf Classic is just around the corner. Porto Cima (one of the courses used) is pictured here.

It was still hot.  But, compared to previous weeks of play, Week 17′s weather was a welcome situation.  95º, overcast skies, and quite breezy: that’s what made for a decent night of golf as Coot’s guys near the end of the 25th season.

With the annual Lake Tournament just around the corner, the energy level was already high.  Several guys took advantage of that energy.  Also, several teams did the same as the standings saw some of the most action in weeks.

Four guys shot a 37 on the night for the low-scratch-score: Jim Roesch, Bruce Thomas, Dave Schuster, and Roland Laury.  Roland also had the low-net-score of the night when his 37 turned into a 28 after factoring in his handicap.

Three guys picked up a skin on the night: Kevin Gardner, Dave Hegger, and Greg Gillick.

All of this great golfing led to a lot of movement in the standings.  That movement was led by The “Z” Band (Team #6) who moved from 9th place to 4th place then on to 1st place all in the last two weeks.

Matt Turek got the only closest-to-the-pin honor of the night.  The other one was skipped due to the poor conditions of that green (thanks to Mother Nature).

While Dave Hegger was busy sending his sand shot from the left bunker on #8 into the fairway on #2 (“I GOT ALL OF IT!”), a couple other golfers were making their mark on history.  Herb Golterman joined the Milestone Watch with his 95th career victory.  Larry Moellering and Dennis Bowers also got a win closer to the 100 Win Club.

But, (finally) Chris Pohrer got career win #150 to join the elite 150 Win Club!

CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS!

The “Z” Band (Team #6) and G & G Snow Plow (Team #10) will face-off against each other next week in Week 18′s feature match-up.  Although, with the top 7 teams all within just two points of each other, every match-up is a big one!

ATTENTION ALL COOTERS!

Due to the Lake Tournament this week, many guys will not be able to attend Week 18′s action.  Any available golfers should plan on being at Quail Creek to fill in for missing golfers.
