And It Only Took 29 Years, 14 Weeks – Week 14 Recap

2016-Week-14-05-jeff-pohrerBoy was it hot and muggy – a heat index of 113-degrees!  WHAT A PERFECT NIGHT FOR A SHRIMP BOIL!

It was time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Coot Brown Golf League, the longest running amateur league in St. Louis.  To do so properly, Joe the Butcher and the guys from Kenrick’s Meat & Catering were on hand to serve up a N’awlins Shrimp Boil and it was DELICIOUS!

But, what could steal the show from that?  How about win #250?!  JEFF POHRER entered the 30th season with a league-leading 247 career victories.  It took him 11 rounds-played over the course of 14 weeks to get the 3 wins necessary to establish the 250 Win Club, but he did it on Week 14.

CONGRATULATIONS JEFF!

It took him almost 7 years to the date to go from 200 to 250 with win #200 coming on 7-16-09.  He is still the league-leader in victories (250) and ties (43) but is still second in losses (200) to PAUL HILLYARD (203).  Now the countdown to 300 begins…

In other Milestone Watch news: JIM PLEIMANN got #99 and BOB TWITCHELL got #147.  JEFF LAURY got #95 to join the watch list.

As for the action in the standings on the night, the heat was on there too! Although they only got 2.5 points on the night, HEYL FARMS remained the top team with 26.5 points, only 1.5 ahead of second-place JOEY B’s (first half champs).

The biggest jump in the standings was THE TUREK BROTHERS who are now tied for fourth place (with C.E.S.) and only 3.5 points out of the top spot after sweeping AALCO MFG.

With just 5 weeks to go until the playoff round, there are 10 teams within just 9 points of the top spot – should make for an exciting quarter of golf!

Low score honors of the week went to NICK KAUSCH (36) and MIKE O’KANE (38).  MIKE WAMSER took sole possession of the Best Record Award with his 7th victory of the season and is now 7-1-2 (.875) on the year.

The feature match of the week coming up on Week 15 is JOEY B’s (second place) vs. BROTHER JOHN (third place) for those all-important late-season points.

“It can’t get any hotter?”
