The Position Round happens every year; in fact, it happens twice a year. However, this was the first time the round took place on Week 9. And, after 9 weeks of the 2015 season, it’s still the weirdest one on record!
Floods, 3 rain outs, a shortened first half and, yep, another league first – a 3-way tie for the First Half Championship! Those 3 teams are: HEYL FARMS, C.E.S. & K.G. ELECTRIC, INC.!
A tie isn’t that big of a deal; despite never having a 3-way tie, we’ve had plenty of ties for the half championship. But, thanks to the ridiculous rain-challenged schedule, none of the tied teams played each other yet, throwing out the first tiebreaker (head-to-head competition).
So, it was decided a playoff challenge would decide the winner of the First Half. The challenge, featuring a 2-man scramble of each team involved in the tie, started on Hole #1 – all teams shot par…time to head to Hole #2. After all competing golfers hit their tee shot, the clubhouse siren sounded – lightning in the area caused play to be ceased with no hope to resume due to the storm coming in.
And so, here we are, a champion-less first half. Week 10, which is the first week of the second half for the first time in 29 years, will also include a tiebreaker for the First Half Championship.
Here’s The Good, The Bad & The Ugly:
- THE GOOD: The First Half is over!
- THE BAD: The First Half winner is…T.B.D.
- THE UGLY: Team with the most points on Week 10 will take the First Half title.
The closest-to-the-pin honors went to BOB DEGUNIA & DAVE SCHUSTER. Only one guy, CHRIS TOCKSTEIN, made progress on the Milestone Watch with his 149th victory; just 1 win away from that 150-Win Club! But, ROB GAYLORD joined the watch with his 95th.
The traditional $10 skins for the Position Round yielded 3 winners of $120 – ROB GAYLORD, KEVIN TYLER & BRUCE THOMAS.
Low-net scores were turned in by: ROB GAYLORD (27/38), MARK BALVEN (28/43) and MARTY YANICS (29/46).
