It was like the Great Outdoors on the Back 9…and it led to one of the biggest standings shakeups in recent history! No spot was safe as 10 out of 12 teams moved up or down in the standings after Week 7.
Most notably, after 6 weeks in the top spot, K.G. ELECTRIC, INC. is no longer in the lead car. With their sweep on the night, JOEY B’S now has a half-point lead!
But, that half-point lead can go away quickly as 2 other teams pulled off the sweep on the night.
BROTHER JOHN jumped from seventh place to third place by grabbing 10 points – they’re now just 2 points out of first place.
AALCO MFG. also grabbed all 10 points on the night from ‘Coot’s Cubbies’ (PAUL THE PAINTER) and leap-frogged to seventh place from tenth place.
This is the tightest race going into Week 8 in a long time!
And, in stark contrast to last week, there were just 2 sub-40 rounds turned in by BRAD GARLICH & DAVE SCHWEITZER – each carded 39s.
The only low-net-score to mention was the 30 turned in by BOB HAEGELE (45). Bob also nabbed a closest-to-the-pin honor; JIM JOST the other.
But, the Milestone Watch was active. DAVE HEGGER led the way by becoming just the eighth guy in Coot’s history to join the 150-Win Club!
CONGRATULATIONS DAVE!
JOHN GREFFET got #147 & BOB HAEGELE got #97. Meanwhile, JEFF POHRER didn’t place so he couldn’t be the first in the 250-Win Club.
PAUL HILLYARD, though, solidified his hold on the career-loss record by getting #199. Does Jeff get #250 first or does Paul get #200 first???
RON SCHMITT is still on fire. He got his 6th victory of the season and is now a perfect 6-0-0 (1.000) on the season. He’s also still got a grip on the “Sandbagger Award” with his -4 handicap. In fact, he’s improved his handicap by 4.13 strokes and the next closest person to him is GARY SCHMIDT at 3.00.
A couple of key match-ups are on the slate for Week 8:
- K.G. ELECTRIC, INC. (2nd place) vs. BROTHER JOHN (3rd place)
- THE TUREK BROTHERS (4th place) vs. HEYL FARMS (5th place)
