Welcome to the first Week 21 in Coot history!
And what a night it was; low temps, high humidity, play on the Prairie Course – A PERFECT NIGHT for a nail-biting Position Round. In fact, it appears to have been the tightest race in league history.
Tight, because the second half title was decided by just a half-point…SOUTHSIDE MACHINE finished with 59 points while THE TUREK BROTHERS and GILLICK BRICKWORK each finished with 59.5 points. Right behind them was HAEGELE NURSERY (58 points) and JOEY B’S (57 points).
And so it is…SOUTHSIDE MACHINE is the second half champs and just 3rd team in Coot’s history to win both the first half and second half titles (it’s been done 4 times in history, METRO ELECTRIC did it twice). It’s the first championship for SOUTHSIDE MACHINE since 2001, ending quite a title drought!
CONGRATULATIONS SOUTHSIDE MACHINE!
You can check out the By the Numbers page to see some new stats based on the 2018 title.
DAVE HARTE & MIKE DIGMAN got the closest-to-the-pin honors on the night. DENNIS BOWERS got #149 and will need just 1 win in 2019 to join the 150 Win Club. DOUG WERNER got the only skin on the night, good for $420 (and preventing a carryover to Week 22 for a big pot).
The final Good, Bad, & Ugly for 2018:
- THE GOOD: “Barry”
- THE BAD: Harte
- THE UGLY: Harte’s Truck
Also, since Week 21 was the final week of official scoring, that brings to close the race for the annual season-end awards. Here are the winners:
- Sandbagger: MARK LANFERSIECK (-6)
- Best Record: DAN BERSETT (9-1-1, .900)
- Sey Tuff Guy: DOUG WERNER (2-13-2 (.133)
In fact, DOUG WERNER is one of two guys to set a new Coot record for most losses in a season at 13; TIM SARGENT is the other. BOG DEGUNIA also tied a league record for most ties in a season (no pun intended) at 6.
Here’s the team lineup for 2019:
- Team 1 – Southside Machine
- Team 2 – The Turek Brothers
- Team 3 – Gillick Brickwork
- Team 4 – C.E.S.
- Team 5 – AALCO MFG.

- Team 8 – Heyl Farms
- Team 9 – Kenrick’s Meats
- Team 10 – K.G. Electric, Inc.

So, thanks to the win by SOUTHSIDE MACHINE on the first 21st week ever, Week 22 will not impact the standings! Instead, it’ll be an season-ending, all-play, COOT BROWN SHOOTOUT!
