Thunder & Lightning – Week 10 Recap

There was thunder & lighting…but there was NO RAIN.  Nonetheless, Week 10 was shortened by weather when the horn sounded at the course at 5:00pm, calling all Cooters off the Prairie course.  With the Position Round looming next week, this presented a challenge of what to do.

The typical practice is a week becomes official if/when 5 holes are played.  But, it wasn’t that simple this time.  You see, 4 cards were completed, 4 cards got through 5 holes, and 4 cards had just started and/or hadn’t started at all.  Therefore, it was determined that the best solution was to pro-rate all scores based on handicaps and play out the round on the scorecards.  For example: if you are a 9 handicap, you were given a bogey on all holes you didn’t finish.

The result of that was very little movement in the standings.  In fact, the only change was THE TUREK BROTHERS (Team 10) flipping with AALCO MFG. (Team 12) to take over third place.  And so, the stage is set for the Position Round next week and the First Half Championship:

  • C.E.S. (4) vs. SOUTHSIDE MACHINE (5)
  • THE TUREK BROTHERS (10) vs. AALCO MFG. (12)
  • KENRICK’S MEATS (8) vs. GILLICK BRICKWORK (1)
  • METRO ELECTRIC (3) vs. PAUL THE PAINTER (9)
  • HAEGELE NURSERY (6) vs. HEYL FARMS (7)
  • JOEY B’S (11) vs. K.G. ELECTRIC, INC. (2)

So there you have it: a Battle Royale between C.E.S. & SOUTHSIDE MACHINE.  But, don’t sleep on THE TUREK BROTHERS who are still in striking distance of the title if the scoring falls into place that way.  The tiebreaker dates back to Week 2 when C.E.S. defeated SOUTHSIDE, giving them the upper-hand going into the night (even though history would indicate a choke may be on the way for Team 4).

ROLAND LAURY earned the only closest-to-the-pin on the night; the kitty for the other honor will carry over to Week 11 when each hole will be worth $72.  As is Coot Tradition, the skins next week for the Position Round play will be $10.  That, combined with the carry over from the weather-shortened Week 10 will make for a big skins pot…don’t miss out!

GARRY BYRD added himself to the Milestone Watch with #95.  And, despite the shortened week, there was still plenty of Good, Bad, & Ugly…

  • THE GOOD: KG was out of town!
  • THE BAD: Rain-less storms.
  • THE UGLY: BOB DEGUNIA & DAVE HEGGER driving around the course tormenting the golfers.
