Everything’s Coming Up George – Week 19 Recap

Johnny Cash ain't got nothing on Joe Turek who dawned the all-black outfit, despite the 100-degree temperatures!

It was the hottest night of the year for all the Cooters on the links.  Especially Team George (Team 2)!

Haegele Nursery (Team 10) couldn’t handle the heat from Mother Nature or from Team George.  They came up 7.5 points shy of the second half title after earning just 2 points on the night.

Team George, on the other hand, earned 8 points on the night and clinched the second-half title & the right to challenge first-half winners, AALCO MFG. (Team 8), for the 2013 League Championship.

[important]CONGRATULATIONS TEAM GEORGE![/important]

Leading the way, as usual, was George Ermold and his 98th career victory.  In fact, it’s George’s Week 3 victory, the only for his team that week, that gives the team the tiebreaker over AALCO MFG.  To win the league title, Team George needs just 5 points, whereas AALCO MFG. must earn at least 5.5 points to win the 27th title.

George wasn’t the only golfer with a milestone victory.  Jim Jost earned #99 – just one more win will earn him a spot in the 100-Win Club.  He also has 99 losses…we’ll see in 2014 which milestone club he joins first!

Meanwhile, Jeff Pohrer continues his hold on the league records for career victories, losses and ties.  His career record now stands at: 228-183-40.  The Player Records page has been updated to include all players’ records through 2013.

The Good – Steve Turek’s birdie on #2
The Bad – $350 he did not need
The Ugly – Handicap parking!

Skins will carryover to next week for a pot of $350!  Next week is an ‘ALL IN’ week…

It was a night of many league firsts.  Leading the way was Dave Hegger.  For the first time in league history, a player played twice in one night.  Dave set the bar low, though, losing BOTH of those appearances!  Dave was the first one out on the course for the night; then the last one out as well, subbing for his own team…”nuff said…”

The other league first on the night came by way of the League Rankings (League Rankings page has been updated).  For the first time since we’ve been tracking the league rankings, we will end the season with a new #1 golfer in the league.  Finishing with a stroke average of 36.56, Dave Schweitzer finished higher than Bruce Thomas (37.17).  This puts Bruce in an unfamiliar spot in the final league rankings of the season.  Dave accomplished this by carding the low-scratch-round of the night with his 2-under-par-34.

[warning]CONGRATULATIONS DAVE![/warning]

Bruce did, though, win the Champ Flight of the 2013 Match Play Challenge…so, he’s got that…

Low-net-scores were turned in by Tim Gardner (28), Craig Morris (28), Chris Tockstein (29) & Matt Gagnepain (29).  Adam Laury & Dave Schweitzer brought in the closest-to-the-pin honors for the night.

And so that brings us to the end of the 2013 season.  Next week’s feature match-up is obviously Team George (Team 2) vs. AALCO MFG. (Team 8) for the 2013 Championship.  Everyone else will be playing a stroke-play shootout for $10/golfer.  Tee Times will happen as you show up, first come-first serve.  The low-net in four flights will take home prize money.

2013 Season Awards have also been announced:
